Maiden attempt

To think back about yesterday, I was rehearsing my speech to Cheryl at her chalet. And a few hours ago, I just attempted my first formal public speaking. I delivered the speech to about 20 people in the conference room. Was a bit nervous at the beginning but towards the middle of the speech, things started to get a little bit better. But my speech was too short. As in, I didn’t complete it in 4 minutes. My timing was 3.45 minutes and I was disqualified (from voting only, luckily the project is nicely done). The moment I heard the timer said ‘disqualified’, my heart literally sank to the bottom of the sea lor (just a 比喻). My evaluator, Phyllis, was so worried that I might need to redo my speech because I didn’t meet the timing requirement. In the end, the general evaluator mentioned that the first timers are allowed to complete their speech between 3.30 to 6 minutes. THAT means I’m qualified! Haha. Phyllis and I heaved a sign of relieve the very moment we heard that. Haha. I really appreciate my evaluator this time round because she took the time and effort to go through my script and gave me so much invaluable advises. Everyone there was so encouraging and there was even a guest who came all the way from India to sit-in and shares his views during the impromptu speech! The president of the club was a Damaian too! The world is so small la. We had a great time discussing about the wonderful teachers who taught us before. Tonight’s session was very beneficial to me. Meanwhile, I shall start working on my second project.

The ribbons that I was presented with at the end of the day:

I met up with Michelle, MW, Estella, Van and Allan at Cheryl’s chalet yesterday. It was a short but fun gathering. I had not seen them for about 2 months since our papers ended in May. We went to bowl and I didn’t manage to strike =( There were times when I was left with one pin only. Haiz. I think I need time to perfect my aiming. Cheryl’s family was very nice. They made sure that we had enough food fill our tummies. Haha. Thanks Cheryl! And thanks again for being my audience (you know what I mean)!
