Bangkok trip

Back from BANGKOK trip!

Before I elaborate more on my trip, I shall blog about the day before I left for Thailand, which was last Thursday. I was on the bus on my way home, then suddenly Peter called. Asked me to find good food around my place and have lunch together. (-.-") I must say that they are very lucky la, cos when he called, it just happen that I'm at Kallang and they were at Sims Ave. So we went to Lorong 35 to have Duck rice. So the four of us (Gabriel, Peter, Jenson, me) had duck rice together. Haha! Was wondering how come they would be near my place in the afternoon. And actually, it was cos Peter went to deliver his books to the distributor, with the help of Gabriel and Jenson. Heard form them that when they were about to leave the building, they entered a lobby which had its staircase exit locked and lift button being faulty. In the end, the 3 of them trapped there for dunno how long before help came and they regain freedom. Lol! I don't mean to laugh at them la, but its kind of funny. I was laughing away la.

from the plane, before landing
the interior of the airport (Bangkok)
saw this huge statue when we arrive at the airport. no idea how tall it stands but I appeared short beside it.

So, about my Bangkok trip. IT WAS DAMN FUN! I was broke by the end of the second day. =x Bought many clothes cos they are super nice and reasonably low-priced. I mean, really really reasonably low. You can't find that kind of price and quality in this country that we are living in. Haha. Stayed at Novotel on the first night. The room was very cosy. Haha. OK, so my mummy and I shopped for about 7hours on the first day at MBK, and we have not even explored the other half of the mall. It was a really really huge mall la. But our hands are already filled with so many bags of clothes, skincare products+comestics (2 big paper bags of them), accessories, and all other barang barangs. Our leg was super tired after all the walking (cos we walked to MBK and back from there to Novotel). And I almost dehydrated, cos I was too engrossed doing my shopping and wasn't totlally unaware of meal time. Haha.

the view from my hotel room window (novotel). right infront is Siam Square, on the right is their train station+track and in the background is MBK! =D
=D the place where I spent most of my $$$ =Xmy hotel room, nice right? =D the napkin roll at the breakfast table. it's greeting me 'good morning'. so cute lor.
Samran Place: a very economical and comfortable hotel, big rooms, nice food, easily accessible =D

Moved to a more economical hotel (Samran Place) the second day, which was near Platanium Mall (roughly about 10 minutes of tuk tuk ride). The tuk tuk ride was so exciting la. It was like roller coaster but cousin told me that they drive very recklessly, can be quite dangerous. While I was enjoying the ride, mummy almost got heart attack, said that the driver anyhow drive. But I'm ok with it. Haha. Went to pray and was suppose to go to Chatuchak weekend market but the taxi driver said it was quite far away from our place. SO we gave that a miss. Talking about the taxis there, they are really colourful. They come in all kinds of colours that you can think of, like neon PINK, bright PURPLE, bright ORANGE and etc.. .. Their charges are also reasonably low-priced. BUT, the roads are always JAMED, as in traffic jam. Can be quite irritating cos it's much worse than the jams we have here. So we chose to travel by tuk tuk instead of taxis from the second day onwards. Spent the second day at Platinum Mall. It’s a wholesale centre and the clothes there are so so so nice. And thus, I bought another mountain of clothes back. =X Went for foot massage at night and really helps. We were sitting next to the window and so, we can see whatever that is happening outside the shop. About 45 minutes into the massage, I saw a BABY ELEPHANT walked pass the shop la! It’s so CUTE!!!! Quite a pity that I did not carry my camera with me at that point of time. The elephant stayed outside the shop for quite sometime before leaving. And my mum said it was because I pointed at it when it first came, said that the people thought that I wanted to go out and play with the elephant, which I really wanted to, but I can’t just walk out like that ma. There was a fountain outside the shop and the elephant was drinking from it. Haha. The person in the shop told us that we can actually buy packs of fruits and feed it to the elephant. That explains why the people caring for the elephants carried packets of fruits with them. Haha. That’s it for second day.

the colourful taxis (on the left lanes)
purple, green, orange (looking at the colours creates a happy feeling in me. haha, dunno why, just happy lor)
the reckless tuk tuk driver
the flooding after the heavy rain

Sunday morning rained like crazy, so we are trapped in the hotel, which is a good for me cos I can sleep longer. The roads were flooded. After the rain stopped, we went to Siam Paragon to cos the things they sell there are branded goods, like out Orchard Paragon. Chilled out at Starbucks cos I guessed we were too early. The shops open at 10am local time and for your info, Bangkok time is 1 hour behind Singapore time. Went to Siam Square and MBK to do last minute shopping. Bought another bag of comestics from the same shop in MBK. Took a cab to the airport to catch our flight. Went by the highway and the driver drove at 130km/hr. Wth. The airport is huge, just like our new T3. But the check-in process damn slow la. We queued for about half an hour before it was out turn. The staff there very slow, abit no sense of urgency. And so we came back to Singapore. Bought an ipodTouch(8GB) from the departure hall. But they charge me GST (basket, I’m felt cheated), cos the person asked me whether I’m arrival or departure and stupid me go and tell them ‘ARRIVAL’. And so, 7% was added the original quoted price (which was Duty Free). Thanks to the salesgirl who never mention anything about this when she was promoting the product to me. ARG! And all along I thought anything they sell inside there are duty free. And so, I learnt that they won’t charge you GST for if you are departing, but upon arrival, they charge. Haiz, like that also not too bad la, at least I still have integrity.

the fish maw salad and pineapple rice =D

green curry~

ahhhh..... haha =D

What we ATE there:
We had Japanese food at Fuji Restaurant when we were at MBK, the 2 of us ate a total of 1000+ baht. 5 different dishes, all super delicious one. We also had mango with sticky rice everyday. Lunch on second day was the best. The taxi driver drove us to this Seafood restaurant where tourists normally go. Each dish was about 300 baht, equivalent to $14++, but they are worth the money. We had green curry, pineapple rice and fried fish maw with salad. The fried fish maw was really really nice. Very crispy and tasty. Must really give it try if any of you go to Bangkok next time. And of course, we had Tom Yum Soup before leaving for the airport on Sunday afternoon.

To Xinying and ChengHao: I can't find the rioting place, so never join the riots. But I heard its kind of far from my hotel. If i ever join them (which is never going to happen la), you will see me on the straits times headline the next day. Haha!
